Fish Salvage Success at Cottonwood Island Park! ๐ŸŸ

L&M Engineering - Civil Engineering and Planning Services

Our team at L&M Engineering was proud to take part in a recent fish salvage effort at Cottonwood Island Park, an important first step in restoring side-channel habitat along the Nechako River.

Over the past several weeks, volunteers and partner organizations worked together to safely relocate fish from the restoration area before in-stream construction begins. In total, approximately 5,000 fish, including 20 Chinook salmon fry, were carefully captured and released into the mainstem Nechako River. This process ensures that aquatic life remains protected while habitat improvement work is carried out.

This initiative was made possible through the collaboration of several dedicated local groups, including the Spruce City Wildlife Association, College of New Caledonia, UNBC Freshwater Fish Ecology Lab, and the Lheidli Tโ€™enneh Fisheries Technician Team. We are grateful to have contributed to this collective effort focused on protecting and enhancing fish habitat within our community.

Projects like this reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship in northern British Columbia. By working together, we can help maintain the health of our local ecosystems and support thriving salmon populations for generations to come.
